What is POP3 email and how do I create a POP3 email account?

POP3 (Post Office Protocol 3) email is the workhorse of the Internet and has been around since 1988 - long before the World Wide Web was widely accessed.

POP3 stores your email on the server to be downloaded locally by your email program or read online using our WebMail feature, a service that is provided free with all our email and web hosting accounts and allows you to check and send email from any Internet connected computer, anywhere in the world.

If you don't wish to use your account's POP3 email feature, you can set up an email redirect to forward your email to an external email address - to another domain you have, an address with your ISP or even an external email service such as Yahoo! Mail or GMail.

Here's how to create a POP3 email account associated with your domain:

  1. Log in to your control panel.
  2. Click on "Create Mail Account".
  3. Enter the mailname that you want to create (ie. "joe", not the full address).
  4. Enter the new password and confirm the new password.
  5. Check the "Mailbox" box.
  6. You can set a mailbox quota size if you wish, or leave it set to "default"
  7. Click on "Finish".

It's that easy! We also offer a step-by-step video tutorial on how to add a POP3 email account; but if you should need further assistance; please don't hesitate to contact our friendly support team for help. POP3 email support is only the beginning - be sure to check out the other great email features of your accounts such as redirects, aliases, autoresponders and more.
